Our mission is to assist our clients in developing the life skills necessary to make healthy choices in their everyday lives, further develop their life skills, and continue to live independently in their community.  The purpose of Capital Social Services (CSS) is to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to live safely in their own homes. We provide education based upon our respect for each individual’s needs and desires. Our goal is to assist individuals in assuming the skills needed to develop self-reliance and to facilitate one’s own relationships with family, friends, and the community. Our ILS instructors are responsible for teaching their clients functional life skills, acting as a positive role model and reinforcing appropriate behaviors and expressions of emotion based on each client's unique needs and capabilities. 

CSS will design services for each individual and alter those services as the needs of the client change over time. Examples of such services are as follows:

• Cooking
• Cleaning
• Shopping in natural environments
• Menu planning
• Meal preparation
• Money management, including check cashing and purchasing activities
• Use of public transportation in natural environments
• Personal health and hygiene
• Self-advocacy training
• Independent recreation and participation in natural environments
• Use of medical and dental services
• Community resource awareness such as police, fire, or emergency help
• Home and community safety

The curriculum will be taught in the appropriate environment depending on the activity at hand; such as shopping at a local grocery store, banking at a financial institution within the community, or cooking in the client’s home.
